A Mourning Moon, the mystery of magenta and mother root mixology..
plus more art news, fundraisers and offers
November full moon is nigh and the world always bends a little sideways for me at this turn in the lunar calendar. Known as the mourning moon - I’ve no idea why- this next full moon on 27th will, I hope, offer some release. I always feel a build of emotions up to a full moon and this one feels particularly pivotal. It’s a good time creatively though as I generally have more of a '“fuck it” attitude and and get very experimental in a kind of wild way ! Pic taken yesterday in the reflections of Hove lagoon - not quite a full moon but I loved the eerie stillness of the water and that sense of floating between sky and sea. Not a wild moon just a wild me.
The top image is my magenta ink drawing named Myocardium, one of three tiny drawings which are being exhibited at Rogue gallery ,St Leonards as part of their ‘Works on Paper’ affordable winter show. All three drawings; Myocardium, ectopic, Larynx (see below) are £150 each - ink on khadi paper and seek to explore how pain feels visually . Abstracted drawings in my favourite magenta which I recently learned is not recognised on the visible spectrum of light, it has no corresponding wavelength. How amazing is that! I love the fact that it defies definition - definitely my colour. Link here to Rogue gallery and please contact the wonderful Ray Gange to buy.Rogue gallery
I also have work in a show opening up next week in Lewes . ‘The shamanic dream’ will be a part of The Dreaming at WIA gallery run by the wonderful Sarah Norris. She pioneers female artists and her shows are always exciting and thought provoking. See pic below of the drawing which will be in some kind of frame - today’s job - I really hate frames and framing ! WIA gallery
The drawing is based on a real experience of shamanic journeying or lucid dreaming undertaken whilst on a retreat a few years ago. See what you want to see.. Its around A3 in size and will be available for sale.
The wonderful artist Marice Cumber invited me to submit a painting for her fundraiser for aid to the middle east. Her insta account is @artforpeaceinthemiddleeast and monies raised will go to support two charities @women.of.the.sun and @womenwagepeace. My painting ‘Hula hands’ pictured below is oil on linen 25x35cm and is available for £500 - 50% of which will be directly donated to the above charities. Please get in touch via this stack or email to purchase - thank you so much ..
Lastly I’m sharing the drink which never leaves my side post cold. After drinking a cauldron of turmeric seaweedy soup last week (which by the way did zap my cold !) I have been addicted to ginger. This drink is the Mother Apple Cider Vinegar, fresh juiced ginger and honey with soda and lemon. It has a kick and is very sour but glorious in it’s fizzy healthiness.
